Unhappy Frigidaire Dryer Timer Not Advancing

Our electric Frigidaire dryer stopped tumbling, and still ran and made a noise, so we guessed it was the belt, and when checking found it was a broken belt.
We got a belt and now the dryer tumbles again, but today when I tried to dry a load of clothes, the dryer knob did not move during the cycle and the dryer did not shut off until I opened the door. I tried a second load and had the same result.
Do I need a new timer, or is it possible we messed something up taking the top off the dryer to get to the drum?
If I need a time, where do I get one? I got the belt at Lowe's but they do not sell timers there.
Thanks for your help.

Default Re: Frigidaire Dryer belt, then timer, I think?

First thing ALWAYS UNPLUG when going to service...I would take the unit a part again and look for a wire that may have come off while working on it the first time.
Then if you don't see any thing obvious put it back together.
If you have heat and the timer is still not moving in the regular time dry section, (not the more dry less dry) you will want to check the little motor on the timer for continuity. Take the two wires off from there connection (remember where they go). Use your multi meter on the two wires from that timer motor. If there is no continutiy on the timer motor then the timer needs to be replaced. But just a guess, because this just happened at the same time you replaced the belt, is that a wire came off some where.
Do that check and then get back to me.
BTW get parts from an appliance parts supply house. I have no idea where you are but use your yellow pages. Its good to walk in so that you can take the old part with you to hold up to the new one to make sure that you are getting the corret one. Take your model number with you.
If you are going to call and have it shipped you can call Tribles and ask for Tim, tell him you got the number from Gordon wweb site and he can send it to you.
But DO NOT order or buy anything until you are certain that it is bad by doing tests.
Thanks

Smile Re: Frigidaire Dryer Timer Not Advancing

I will show this to my husband when he gets home and let him have a look at it. We will have to buy a tester, we do not have one.
My husband might not have time to do this until Sunday, he works very late hours, 6 days a week.
Thank you for such a swift reply and I will post again when I know more about what is going on.

If you are going to purchase a meter / tester get one that makes a beep sound when there is continutiy. They are much easier to use.

Hi.
My husband took the top off the dryer last night, saw where a wire had come out, put it back in and now the timer is working again.
We put a load of clothes in to dry and when we went back to check on them, they were not hot or dry. Tried it again, same thing.
So has our heating element went out or could it be something else?
Thanks!

Its all guessing until you test. Of course the first thing to test is the heating element for continuity. And double check that wire that you found loos. 1. that its where it belongs and 2. that it did not come out again and is touching something it shouldn't
