Question Whirlpool Washer won't fill

Hello Again :
My original question concerned my Whirlpool Ultimate Care Heavy Duty - Super Capacity Plus Supreme 8 Cycle 2 Speed Motor clothes washer, Model LSR8233EQ1, Serial CH5120272, about 5 years old. Suddenly, yesterday, it will not fill with water, although it does spin in the final cycle if one depresses the dial, moves it to spin, and pulls out on the dial. Good that that function still works, but useless without fill capability. In your reply from from yesterday, you suggested checking the water-inlet valve and water level switch. Do I need to remove the back panel to perform these checks? Where is the water level switch located?
And by the way, we DO NOT have the Hot Water line hooked up for our installation. Our clothes come out just fine from using COLD Water ONLY.
Thanks.
LFP

hi again to you and thaqks for reposting. Good info. If all you have is the one water hose hooked up move it over to the other fitting on the water valve. There are two openings one for the hot hose and one for the cold one. Just move it over and then try changing the switch to match that. This may make the unit work for you. If it does then we know that the cold water selonoid on the water inlet valve is bad.

If that is the case let me know if you want to still change it or just use the machine with the hose swapped and I'll try to explain how to do that. I thin I have a pic I can dig up too.

Wink Re: Whirlpool Washer won't fill

Howdy!
Good call. I switched the inlet hose around from cold to hot, selected the hot/cold temp on the front display, and the water is filling, albeit more slowly than before. So it seems to be the solenoid. Any further thoughts about where to get a replacement coldwater solenoid? And more importantly, how to replace the critter? LFP

Hi - First look at the fill valve ends that the hose goes onto. There are screens there that need to be cleaned (or replaced) Also look at the ends of the hose for screens too.

To replace the entire valve you have to remove the cabinet of the washer. The entire top, front and sides are one peice and come off as a unit.
I will look for a picture to post here. Let me know about the screens too.

Ubplugg the unit. As you can see the cabinet comes off. Geting it off and back on correctly is not easy if you have never done this
Remove (all the way out) two phillips screws on the console. (where the knobs are) One all the way on the left bottom corner of the console and the other on the right.
Lift the console up and fold it back. It is on hinges and will fold back as long as the machine is about 6" or more from the wall.
Unplugg the plastic quick disconnect that plugs into the cabinet so you can remove the cabinet without pulling the wires out.
On the left and right sides of the cabinet you will see two brass looking clamps (look at how the are in there so you can get them back as they only will work one way).
Use a flat blade screwdriver holding straight up and down and place it into the opening for the clamp in the cabinet and pop the clamp up.
Remove both clamps.
Tilt the cabinet towards you at the same time pull the cabinet out and away fromt the machine.
You will see the fill valve.
Turn off the water.
Make note of which hose goes on which connector AND WHAT WIRES GO ON WHICH SELONOID. Otherwise you will get hot when you have it set for cold.
Replace the valve. That part is obvious it is removed and replaced.
Then reverse the install of the cabinet making sure not forget to hook up the quick disconnect.

Question Re: Whirlpool Washer won't fill

Hey.
I hear what you say about the valve and the screens on both the end of the inlet hose and the valve itself. As long as I need to take apart the outer cabinet and top, it's best to do the replacements. And as long as I have to get into the guts of the thing, I want to replace the solenoid also. Do you have a source for the replacement parts that I need? Or would it be better to access the manufacturer's website?

Give hime the model number and tell him the water inlet valve. He will ship it to your door. their numbers are on the first page in a display 410-265-6655

hello everyone i also have same problem with my whirlpool washer. i just moved into a new home and now my washer and crosley dryer don't work. i transported them in our van laying down on their side. when i got the laundry room done and ready, washer and dryer started malfunctioning. whirlpool washer won't fill, tried switching from cold to hot outlet as well but no luck, still drained the water. i only have cold active. the washer is a heavy duty 7 cycle washer don't remember ser. # but if you need it i'll post it next time. now the dryer is a crosley. after i got everything ready i pushed da button to start and some loud strange noise everytime it rotates inside likes its rubbing or something. i checked but theres not dents that would fit the crime. well the noise continues until it shuts off on its on. then i wait about 4 minutes then it will let me start it again. but this last time i tried, it didn't anymore, i think it croak!! come someone help me!
