GE Gas or Built In Fault Codes


Failure Code Condition Check/Repair

F0 or F1 Failed transistor in control.
1. If code cannot be cancelled, replace the Electronic Range Control (ERC) or touch pad.

F2 Oven over temp - exceeded 590F with door in unlocked position or 990F with door locked.
1. If actual temp condition occurred, look for welded relay contacts or high resistance connection.
2. Look for any cause in the oven temperature sensor circuit.

F3 Open oven temperature sensor circuit.
1. Measure oven temperature sensor circuit at oven temperature sensor 2. 2. 2. Should be approx 1100 ohms at room temp.
3. Check for cut or pinched wire or loss of contact.

F4 Shorted oven temperature sensor circuit.
1. Same as above; check for melted connector.
2. Check for both leads shorted to ground.

F8 Component failure within Electronic Range Control (ERC) effecting temp processing circuits.
1. Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

F9 Problem with door lock circuit.
1. Check for a pinched wire between Electronic Range Control (ERC) and door lock switch.
2. Check wiring and test operation of switch. >>

Failure Code Condition Check/Repair

F0 - F1 - F7 Stuck keypad may mean relay is turned on. Determine if problem is with the Key Panel or Control by:
1. Pushing CLEAR/OFF pad.
2. Disconnecting Ribbon Cable from control and waiting at least 32 seconds to see if Code recurs.
3. If code recurs, problem is in the control. Replace Control.
4. If code does not recur, problem is with the Key Panel.

F2 Note: Also see fan thermal switches Indicates that oven is over temperature in one of the following modes within either a cooking or clean mode of operation.
1. Control senses oven temperature above 650 degrees F with the door circuit in the unlock mode.
2. Control senses oven temperature above 935 degrees F with the door in the locked mode.
3. Stalled cooling fan or airflow problem. · Look for welded relay contacts. (Heating elements on in off mode).
4. Look for open thermal switch in lock motor circuit. Switch is normally closed and will open if area overheats due to fan not operating. Look for cause - fan thermal switch not closing, fan stalled, etc.
5. Look for high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit due to high contact resistance (poor terminal crimp, deformed terminals, loose connection) or intermittent solder joint on control or intermittent oven temperature sensor.
6. Look for electrical noise interference in the oven temperature sensor circuit (Ham radio, cordless phone, etc.).

F3 - F4 Open oven temperature sensor (circuit) (over 2700 ohms) or, shorted oven temperature sensor. Could be a result of:
1. Contamination on terminals.
2. Pinched wire in oven temperature sensor circuit.
3. Cold solder joint on control. Disconnect power to range and remove oven temperature sensor connector from control.
4. Measure oven temperature sensor resistance at oven temperature sensor connector (take care not to damage terminals in block) - Should read 1100 ohms at room temperature (approx 72 degrees F).
5. Measure each oven temperature sensor lead from connector block to ground. If shorted, look for pinched or cut wire in oven temperature sensor circuit.
6. Check connector terminals - Look for deformed or corrosion on terminals. See if you can repair or replace.
7. If all above is ok replace control.

F5 Relay safety circuit failure.
1. Check oven temperature sensor circuit for intermittent high resistance.
2. Check lock circuit.
3. Press Clear/Off and reprogram control. If code reappears, replace control

Note: If all above check OK the F5 code can be a result of a momentary loss of power (Do NOT replace control or lock, check lock circuit).

FC Problem with door lock circuit such as pinched wires between control and door lock switches on motorized lock circuits.
1. Check wiring and test operation of switches.

FD Shorted meat probe
Note: Problem can be with the probe or receptacle or meat probe circuit.
1. Check probe. Resistance should be 30k ohms to 50k ohms at room temperature.
2. Look for pinched wire.
3. Look for condensation or contamination of receptacle or nearby installation.

FF Loss of door motor safety circuit.
1. Replace control. >>

Failure Code Condition Check/Repair

FFF Control Error.
1. Failed EEPROM Replace Control.

F0 or F7 Shorted Clear/Off Key due to membrane switch, control or connector Shorted key panel membrane switch.
1. Check Electronic Range Control (ERC).

F2 During Bake Control senses oven temp above 590 degrees F High resistance connection in oven temperature sensor circuit.
1. Check Electronic Range Control (ERC).
2. Welded bake relay contacts.

F2 During Clean Control senses oven temp above 915 degrees F High resistance connection in oven temperature sensor circuit.
1. Check Electronic Range Control (ERC).
2. Welded clean relay contacts.
3. Both lock switch 1 & 2 closed at the same time.

F3 Open oven temperature sensor.
1. Oven temperature sensor resistance exceeds 2900 ohms during bake or broil.
2. Clean Oven temperature sensor/Oven temperature sensor circuit connections.

F4 Shorted oven temperature sensor.
1. Oven temperature sensor resistance less than 2900 ohms during bake or broil.
2. Clean Oven temperature sensor/oven temperature sensor circuit connections.
